Dreaming of a New Edmonton Opera House

Check out this Edmonton Journal article about new Edmonton Opera CEO Sandra Gajic - we should have a new opera house?  What do you think?

Dreaming of a new Edmonton opera house

Paul Lorieau's Meditations on Singing, and the Edmonton Oilers

Paul Lorieau, Edmonton's favourite singer of the national anthem at Oiler gamers for more than 30 years gives a heartfelt interview of the "monastic" nature of being a professional singer, and how singing is a form of prayer.

Check out the video from the Edmonton Journal here.

Mr. Lorieau announced his retirement from singing the national anthem at Oiler Games on March 23rd, 2011 and his final engagement will be tonight, April 8, 2011.  Mr. Lorieau's absence will be felt across Edmonton and for Oiler fans in Canada.

“Being able to personally witness all of the Oilers great moments here at Rexall Place, including seven retirement banners, has been a real treat for me over the years,” said Paul Lorieau. “I’ve heard it said that the Oilers have the best fans in the NHL and I couldn’t agree more, it’s been a pleasure to sing the anthem for each and every one of them.” (From this NHL article)

My hope is that with Mr. Lorieau's retirement, Edmonton and Alberta up and coming singers will get the chance to perform at Rexall Place (and the new arena!) so that the world can hear what great talent is here in Edmonton.

Congratulations Paul, we will miss you.  All the best in the future!
